The Best Batman on Film
Much as with James Bond, fans have often argued which is the best movie incarnation of the Batman. Mad Magazine gave us this great panel that skirts the issue by announcing that every movie Batman (Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Christian Bale so far) is still trumped by the animated Batman from Mask of the Phantasm, created for the animated series and voiced by Kevin Conroy. No argument here.
Batman and the Gray Ghost
The Gray Ghost episode of Batman: The Animated Series was a tribute to actor Adam West and the deeply influential 1960s Batman television show he starred on. Much as West was forever typecast as the campy Batman he played, Simon Trent could not shake his portrayal of the Gray Ghost. By the end of the episode, Trent gains vindication when he discovers that his performance directly inspired Batman in his youth. By casting both Adam West in the role of the Gray Ghost and himself as a crazed fan recreating one of the Gray Ghost’s episodes, series producer Bruce Timm ensured that the autobiographical homage would be paid in person.
“As a kid, I used to watch you with my father. The Gray Ghost was my hero.” Thank you Adam West. We Batfans salute you.
Batman accepts your invitation to Batusi
Batman demonstrates three things here: how to chat up a young lady at a bar, how to get down on the dance floor, and how you should always watch to make sure no one puts anything in your drink. If some of his dance moves look familiar, it may be because of the homage paid to the infamous Batusi in Pulp Fiction :)
