Being thrust into life threatening scenarios on a daily basis can make anyone just a little bit jaded. As a result, Batman can handle situations like being set on fire with complete aplomb. Logically, there’s no reason to panic, it’s probably just a new strain of fear toxin. Ho hum.
What makes Batman so terrifying? Perhaps it is that he has taken the bat as his inspiration. As earthbound humans, there is an envy and mistrust of creatures that can fly. In addition, bats are creatures of the night, who can see what we can’t, able to attack us when we are most vulnerable.
Except for his lethality, Scott Kurtz of PVP captures the essence of Batman in a quick strip. He’s hoping to finish the story one day. Let’s hope he does :)
Strikingly different from other brightly colored heroes, Batman’s dark persona was specifically designed to strike fear in criminals. Many writers have used the idea that he was initially seen as a demonic urban legend.
