SEEKERS OF THE BAT

Pandemonium reigns when the theft of a molecular mass divisor signals the first domino to fall in a nefarious crime wave to topple the noble city of Gotham. Who will rescue the fair citizens of this great metropolis?!?! Holy obvious set up, old chum!! It’s none other than that dynamic duo Batman and Robin, the caped crusaders of justice, freedom and tortured aphorisms!  Written and directed by Jim Fourniadis, this play spoofing the 1960s television show had a 2005 run at San Francisco’s Darkroom Theater.

Short fan film supposedly set in the Nolan Bat universe. Violence and some adult language, but very well put together.

Dustin Nguyen gives us this awesome group shot of the major characters in the Bat universe. It must have been a blast to put together. The only character I had trouble identifying was the little girl sitting on Clayface’s shoulder. It turns out she’s Annie, Clayface’s “daughter” from the animated series. For such a loner, Batman sure does have a lot of people in his life :)

Before we all had smartphones, Batman already had internet enabled devices :) What a great ad campaign for OnStar; Who can resist using the same high tech gadgets that Batman himself uses?

Bat In The Sun productions gives us another excellent addition to its Batman fan film portfolio with Batman Legends, a compilation of clips featuring faithful renditions of several scenes including the creation of the Joker, the death of Jason Todd, and Bane’s breaking of the Batman. Also notable was a shot of the original Bob Kane Batman with the wide ears :)

Edward Nashton, aka Edward Nygma aka The Riddler, was a brilliant young man whose aptitude for solving puzzles and cutting corners led him to crime. As a master schemer, he pushes Batman to his mental limits, however he has one major flaw: Be it psychosis, a desire to be caught, or simple hubris, he can’t help himself from leaving clues in the form of riddles before his crimes. This compulsion has also been explained as an obsessive compulsive need to tell the truth garnered from a childhood of parental abuse.

In recent times, Edward Nygma proclaims that he has reformed, and works as a private investigator for hire. However, you can be sure that the Batman keeps an eye on him at all times, in case the Riddler makes a grand return.

Interestingly, the Riddler was a minor, throwaway character until he was introduced to the Adam West television show where he quickly became an A-list Batman villain with his famous line “Riddle me this, Batman…”.

This wonderful fan trailer depicts an alternate future where Dick Grayson, the original Robin, has to come out of retirement to avenge the death of the Batman.  They appear to ignore Dick’s time as Nightwing, as well as [his wife!] Barbara’s crippling at the hands of the Joker (although one shot alludes to it). Superman appears to play a minor role as a boy scout blindly following orders, as well as several great appearances by Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman?, Batgirl, Catwoman, the Riddler, Penguin and of course the Joker. If there was one fan trailer I’d want to see made into a full film, this would definitely be it.
